Email, phone, URL, and user fields

Four new custom fields to help you collect and organize data.

A padlet post showing all four new custom fields: user, email, phone number, and URL.

Filling out forms on my phone is a dangerous game. If I need to enter my zip code and the regular keyboard shows up instead of the numeric keypad, it makes me incredibly, irrationally angry.

Whether you relate to my rage response or just like things that work properly, you'll appreciate our latest update: four new custom field types that automatically validate and organize data.

Four field types for perfect data

Email field

Validates email addresses automatically. Perfect for contact forms and directories. No more "john.doe@gmailcom" making it through.

Phone number field

Accepts different formats as long as they’re numbers. You can enter (555) 123-4567 or 555-123-4567, then we’ll format them to look the same.

URL field

Include a URL in your post. Useful for collecting digital portfolios, profiles, or personal websites. Only accepts URLs.

User field

Here’s how to add these new custom fields.

  1. Board settings → Post fields → New custom field
  2. Choose email, phone, URL, or user

Custom fields are available now on web and mobile.

Building on structured data foundations

Since 2023, we've been expanding Padlet's structured data capabilities. We started with custom text fields, then added number, date, single-select, and button fields. With these four, we now support nine custom fields covering the most common data collection needs.

Combined with our recent table format and submission links, you get a lightweight alternative to Google Forms + Sheets workflows but with multimedia support and real-time collaboration.

What's next

We plan to add multi-select fields, percentage inputs, and currency formatting. We're also working on the ability to group posts by custom field. So, for example, if you use the user field to assign tasks, you can group posts based on who they are assigned to.
